Ecotourism on Hornstrandir Report by our summer intern Matthias

One of our summer interns Matthias Kuhn from the University of Iceland was working on a very interesting and relevant project supported along with ourselves by the Rannís Student Grant and the Environment Agency of Iceland and in partnership with his collegue Victor F. Pajuelo Madrigal.

Matthias (3rd from left) with the Hornvík fox monitoring team in June

The project focused on the Hornstrandir Nature Reserve (where we research, among other projects, the tourist effects on the native Arctic fox populations) and looked to explore the joint possibilities of conservation and development of the reserve by dividing the tourists in their expenditure behaviours and test their different impacts on wildlife (the fox) and society.

We would like to congratulate Matthias on the completion of the report and his project and thank him for the time he spent with us during the summer.

If you are interested in becoming an intern wih the Arctic Fox Centre please email melrakki@melrakki.is
